It gives me immense happiness as the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of Kurnool Medical College are ending on a grand scale. It is the collective effort of the college staff, professors, management and the Alumni that has made these celebrations a reality. In January, 2017 when we decided to organize the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations we faced a lot of questions such as how we should take this forward, how will we arrange the required funds and other such questions. As a saying goes that Time has solution for every problem, we approached the Alumni Association and decided to take forward our Diamond Jubilee Celebrations with their help. It was also decided to organize Diamond Jubilee Celebrations on a large scale under the able leadership of Dr. Sattar, DME (Retd) the first medical student of KMC.
For the same the Alumni Association President and Secretary, Dr. S.Venkataramana, Dr. Y.Praveen, PR Consultant GBK Murthy, the then hospital superintendent Dr.Veeraswamy, present superintendent Dr. Chandrasekhar, Vice-Princiapal SPM, Department Head Dr. Sridevi, Medicine Department Head Dr. Sudhakar, Dr. Ranganath of the same department, Eye Hospital Superintendent Dr. Narendra, Radiology Department Head Dr. Joji Reddy, Gastroenterologist Dr.ShankarSarma, Endocrinology Head of the Department Dr Srinivas , other department heads, PG students, undergraduate students, other employees have come together and rendered all the support they can which had made this event a grand success.
Kurnool Medical College is one of the prestigious medical colleges in the country in the 20th century. The pass outs of this college are holding prestigious positions in more than 40 countries worldwide and rendering their services as Medical Science Specialists, Experts, etc. One of the famous Oncologist who had bought in revolutionary changes in the treatment of cancer Dr. Nori Dattatreyudu, World Gastroenterologist Guru Padma Bhushan Dr. DuvvuruNageswar Reddy had graduated from this prestigious institute only. There are many more such names who are not only making KMC's name proud but they are also making India proud on the International Arena.
In 1956, Kurnool Medical college was started with mere 50 students where as today it has 200 students graduating from here every year. So far 14000 students have graduated from this institute and they are offering their services to the needy world wide.The Silver Jubilee Celebrations were held in 1979. In 2006 the Golden Jubilee Celebrations were held for which the then President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam was the chief guest and those celebrations have motivated many students to scale new heights in their career. In 2017, it was the time for Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of Kurnool Medical College.
The Diamond Jubilee Celebration committee had decided to conduct the celebrations from March to July. During this period conducting CME's by inviting worldwide outstanding doctors, conducting Medical Science exhibition and creating medical awareness in the people of Rayalaseema, health awareness walk, conducting various campaigns, getting ready for a convention in July was the plan.
The Diamond Jubilee Celebrations were started with the CME conducted by Padma Bhushan Dr.Duvvuru Nageswar Reddy on March 3rd. On the same day the Principal and Superintendent who have rendered exceptional services were felicitated.
A Medical Science Exhibition was conducted on March 21st, with the aim to create medical awareness to the people of Rayalaseema and a few parts of Telangana. More than 100 expert Doctors from more than 35 medical departments, 450 under graduates, worked hard for more than a month to make exhibits easily understood even by common man. Every day this exhibition had visitors running to few thousands in number and acquiring medical awareness.
Later, in the month of May Medical College Students conducted a rally on a large scale with the tag line Better Health Better Life to create awareness in the people about good health.
Experts from the Alumni of Kurnool Medical Colleges were invited to conduct CME's and create awareness in the students.
Later, the closing ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations was delayed. Inspite of the delay we are organizing the closing ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
Kurnool Medical College, situated in the backward area of Rayalaseema which has produced some most precious jewels in the world of Medical Sciences is celebrating 60 years of its existence. We hope people and government will continue to support and encourage us to prove India's mettle in the field of medicine on the universal arena.
